Elder Austin Fullmer – Enya
19 December 2011
Hallo,
We had Christmas Zone Conference this week. That means that my companion and I had to wake up at 5AM to get there. We got there pretty early. I would have been content with getting there 15 minutes early and thus being able to wake up at 6AM, but live and let live. A man on the street told me that the other day. I was really glad that I caught the saying when he said it in German. Leben und leben lassen. Sweet. Anyways, we took the train from Annaberg-Buchholz to Chemnitz and then from Chemnitz to Leipzig. It took us just over two hours to get to the Leipzig Central Stations and then about 20 minutes with the street trains to get to the church building. I got to see Elder Burnett, one of my MTC companions, and Sister Shaerr, one of the sisters in my district at the MTC. I was so happy to see the two of them. Elder Burnett has been my favorite companion so far. The Assistants to the President and our Zone Leaders both gave a Thame (lesson / talk). Then we had a gift exchange. I thought it was going to be like a White Elephant exchange, but it was more like musical chairs. Before we started, Elder Burnett and I were talking about the gifts we brought. He didn’t tell me what he brought, but it was really cool the way it was wrapped. It was the shape of a pyramid. I told him that I was determined to get his gift. The funny thing was that I actually did. The even funnier thing was that when I opened it, I found that the pyramid part was just cardboard and that at the base was a tribute CD to Enya. It gave me a good laugh. He told me that the tribute band is actually pretty awful. I have listened to it yet. We will have to see.
The theme that our mission president gave was about love and charity. This week is the Advent of Love, so that is why he talked about love. He really talked about loving the people of German. You always hear about missionaries saying how much they loved the people of the place where they served. For some missionaries that is actually sort of hard, here in Germany at least. We get rejected so often that sometimes it is hard not to get frustrated. President Pimentel quoted something that the Prophet, President Hinkley said, something to the affect of, any man or woman who harbors any sort of resentment or unkind thoughts for another race cannot be considered a disciple of Christ. Food for thought.
We have transfer calls this week. They are on Friday because Saturday is Christmas Eve. Pretty excited to see what happens. I have a thought that I might be doing a one hit wonder here in Annaberg. One transfer and then out. But really I have absolutely no idea. So mal sehen. We’ll see.
Last thing, I have been reading the last session of General Conference (the biannual conference that my church has that is broad casted all over the world to members) because I didn’t get to see it back in October and when finally got our copy of the talks at Zone Conference. I really, really liked a talk by Elder Cook. It was about trials. He said, “Adverse results in this mortal life are not evidence of lack of faith or of an imperfection in our Father in Heaven’s overall plan. The refiners fire is real, and the qualities or character and righteousness that are forged in the furnace of affliction perfect and purity us and prepare us to meet God.”
Merry Christmas. Schönes Weinachtszeit.
peace,
tschüß,
love,
