Elder Tyler Fullmer – Gifts of the Spirit

So guess what… I found out something I thought was really cool. We have someone from our stake coming to this mission. I don’t recognize the name, maybe he is new or something. His name is Patrick Andrew Mitchell. The funny thing is that I didn’t even recognize that he was from our stake. When I looked at his “profile” I just saw that he lived in Sheridan and thought “wow that’s close” then

saw that his bishop(not the ward name) lived in Grand Ronde. I had already clicked away before I really got what was going on. So I jumped back and saw President Peterson’s name and was like ” this is crazy I can’t believe someone from my stake is coming here.” I don’t know him though, maybe you guys told me he was coming but I don’t remember and I thought it was cool. I hope he gets his visa so he comes when I’m secretary and  can welcome him here. If you guys see him, or more likely his bishop, tell him we’re all praying for his visa because we need more missionaries. I think we’ve got 4 people stuck in the US. One was liberated that we know for sure we think.  Two more are, but not for sure, and the other one still has visa by his name so he doesn’t have it.

So today is the big day. We have my first baptism today. It’s a baptism and marriage. Should be way cool. I’m not baptizing her. I made my comp ask her who she wanted to do it. He just wanted to be like “Oh and by the way Elder Fullmer will baptize you”, but he asked and she quietly, like something was wrong with her choosing one, asked him to do so. It’ll be nice, he wants me to talk, but of course I don’t know what I’m going to talk about. So that will be fun. Her whole family is coming, we think we’ll have around 70 nonmembers there. We just hope we have enough food.

My comp is training the new executive secretary so we’re in a group of three right now. We had some major problems with one AP and president was like “I’m done, he’s going to be demoted to senior his last transfer” so we did some changes in the set up and now my third comp for right now is Elder Bateman. He’s cool, I like him a lot. It’s cool to have an American comp again, but the odd thing is that he’s got less time in the mission than I do right now. So he’s kind of freaking out like I was when I got called here, but as we can see things are going good now. It’s going to be good cause he’s really ready to work and just go go go which I kind of need right now.

The postal service is still out-of-order….. because the time has come for the government to decide how much more they will all make next year. So Elder Machado says that this happens every year but last time was shut down for 30 days. All of the missionaries are freaking out. No letters mean that everyone here starts to die. Today was way sunny to start the day out, but now it’s all cloudy and dark. I do love this town a lot. I need to find a safe way to send my two sd cards home. I’ve got a lot of pictures to send home. And I still have a third to use. Thank you memory cards.

So we met a Baptist today who was this crazy American guy who wanted to talk in English but got stumped by some 19 year old guys haha. He told us that you can’t do anything to gain salvation just accept Christ. If we try to do anything good, that’s trying to buy your
way into heaven. I was like “well we need faith and a scripture says ‘faith without works is dead…..I’ll show you my faith through my
works…..” and then he cut me off to say” no no no that’s trying to buy your salvation and Christ already paid.” He showed us a picture
from “the Passion of the Christ”(which was disgusting) and was like, “he paid.” then he said that he didn’t want to argue just was nice to talk in English, and then this struck me as funny he said “Man if I could have the gift of tongues that would be such a blessing, but we know that those things stopped in the first century.” Haha… he has been here for 4 years and doesn´t know how to speak very well.
I wanted to say “I have 6 months and I know this language better than you. That’s the gift of tongues showing you the right church.”

Anyways my job is to sit at a computer and to put all of our financial things into the mission system to send to São Paulo to be approved. Then if we have a problem, I have to make the calls to fix it. I go to the bank and make payments, but the thing I do the most is make sure things are filled correctly and make sure that all our payments are going smoothly. For example, I just got word from São Paulo that two of our land lords have banks that the church can’t work with anymore so next Tuesday I have to talk to them about how I can change that or if we need to cut that house. I just make sure things go well. A lot of times I’m just making sure missionaries are getting the money they need.

Anyways this picture is something that someone spray painted on a wall close to our house and I thought it was funny. There is also a
fountain I need a picture with, but there’s always a doorman there and I bet he’ll think I’m odd if I’m taking a picture with this fountain.

Oh mom, I had an investigator freaking out over your album the other day. She was like “oh my gosh I can’t believe your mom scrapbooks as well.” Hehe so you might need to do some more.

hey last week if forgot to write about my audit, but I don’t have time this week someone write me and remind me about it next week. Let’s just say it went ok.

Love you all,

Elder Tyler Fullmer – Girlfriends

You guys have the main news of the week already.
I’m sending 2 pictures of families that were way cool in Cricúma so watch out for those. The big family is the Machados (I think) and I don’t remember the other families last name. They were both way cool and it helps that both of them always fed me when i went there right. That was always a perk. But really they were way nice the really big family had children with every problem known to man. I felt really bad because they were all way cool and the mom helped us out so much but the dad didn’t really help and then only one son went on a mission and is active in the church. I think their missing kids in the picture that I sent. The other family was a family that we tried to reactivate and they were really close when we left so lets see how that goes. I really hope they start to go back. Because they really were close. I must admit in Brasil she makes the best bread and cake I have had here but once again two of their kids are not in the picture with them cause the other kids are not home.
The sad thing about this country is that every one works a whole lot and they don’t make a whole lot of money but they are always away working. Always always always.
Anyways the other pictures are of me in my office. That’s right I have my own office. I am one of two people in the mission that have offices, and the other is president. Pretty soon there’s only going to be two of us here. right now we have 4 but once im trained the other 2 will leave. President doesn’t want to have the other two in here any more. What the old financial secretary doesn’t know is that normally you stay 9 months and he’s only staying 6 because president wants him gone and out. For good reason to.
Sadly all is not well in wonderland. I wouldn´t call the staff the good ol´boys club but it sure feels that way. We’ve got a lot of people that know who they like and help them out more. In fact we have a AP who most of the rest of the people are fed up with here but I kinda like him. He does things to make people a little annoyed. Nothing big but I guess one of the things he does is tape the door bell so it always rings and he did it the first night I was there and the old financial secretary runs out into the hall, yelling blood in his eyes, throws him up against the wall yelling and said some pretty dumb things and almost hits him. He gets pulled off and goes straight to the phone and calls president to recount the story which went a little something like this.
“Hello president, yes something happened Bingham well……he tapped the door bell and……..well its been going on for a while and we told him to stop…….he does other things too and this time I was just done……….so this time I well I grabbed him I kind of yelled and threw him into the elevator…….No I didn´t hit him I just lost my temper…..But he does this all the time so I just wanna say the blame is all on him this wasn´t me.”
I mean I know Bingham and the things he does can be annoying like everyone else, but the blame was not only his. We’ve also got problem cause when the other companionship of AP´s get together with the other 2 staff who are going to leave in their mind they are in control of everything. I think president is making the necessary changes he already split up the AP´s put them both over 2/3 zones each gave them a newer comp and sent them out and they will change areas every 2 weeks and just try to help the zone.
Now he’s got me training and I think he wants me to be self sufficient in 2 weeks so I can do all this by myself and he can get the other two out of the office. So im trying to get this done. He’s already taught me how to do all of the reimbursements, which is why my training will go slow cause they take up a lot of time. I also know how to take money out of the bank, pay electronically the bill and things that we have. so it will be good im learning fast.
Other than that the time here flies by. We are in here from 10-5 and then we become normal missionaries again. Some times we´re here really late. It’s a good life I chill writing emails and things like that.. Input a lot in the computer.  I just really hope I don´t accidentally screw anything up. I know I won´t but oh well. I had a talk with Elder Bingham and I said “I never wanted this I just wanted to stay junior turn senior and then stay.” It got really quiet and Bingham was like “with President Quiroiz anyone in the office was going to be LZ and very likely AP so good luck buddy” But hey I got 9 months here so it should be a good time to learn. If president wants me to be an LZ or AP I guess that will come anyways. It’s really cool being here and having this time with president but kinda sad seeing the other side of the AP´s when they are going around you don’t see this whole contention and the sad thing is the AP’s are all trying to get me on their “side” you know? Like their almost trying to get me to see things only their way. Well i’ll stop talking about this sad stuff.
We teach an english class which is way cool. In fact we are trying out a new way of teaching the class. This is because president doesn’t want to have them anymore. But that’s another story. It should be a lot better, were using a new form of videos (from the church) and the Liahona to teach everyone. The good part was that every one loved it. They all wanted to keep the talk that we used they wanted to see all the other Mormon messages. My comp said that it was the first time he had felt the spirit in the English class and of course the most important part they all loved me. They all kept asking if I was going to be the teacher or not. “He’s going to stay right? Elder Fullmer is going to be our teacher?” haha actually I got a girl asking “did you leave a girlfriend behind?” To which I responded “no” and another girls (sharp intake of breath) “Really??????” to which the first girl responded “well you move fast”.  Of course my comp being smart was like “we can’t date on the mission” and the one girl who yelled really all embarrassed said “I know..umm…thats not what I meant….but I mean when you guys are done you come back right?” and just to cut everything of that type off he politely said “Actually the leaders of the church tell us never to go back to where we serve our mission to try to keep those two lives separate.” haha
Well I think that is about it, love you guys. until next week.

Elder Tyler Fullmer – Financial Clerk

Hey guess what your son is moving up in the world. We got to see the “rege”, the list of where everyone is going this next transfer, and E. Fullmer was listed as the SF. Yes that’s right I get to spend the next couple of transfers on a computer. It will be fun I guess. It’ll at least be a different aspect of the mission. I’m really excited to be closer to the president and his family. Plus i’ll get letters and packages right when they get here. So stop sending them to Criciúma im moving out yay. Its was a build up that culminated with me yelling “what ive got than 3 months in field and they want me to be what………?” I’m not quite sure what im going to be doing but I know part of it is about the reimbursement that get going. So that’s something im really excited for.

My comp was gone a lot this week. He had to leave Tuesday night to go to a training in Floripa for all of the Zone Leaders so he was gone till i think till Wednesday night. So I was once again blessed with the opportunity to stay with Elder Eide again. Man it’s always great days when im with him. We found this one older gentleman who had a lot of questions about where we go after this life so that was cool to talk to him but also he had so many questions about what we teach about in the restoration. So we are going to tell the next people to go back to him. We then contacted the heck out of that street and found one lady who was really hit by our message. We taught about Joseph smith and she started crying and said that she wanted to go to church before she accepted a date but would be baptized. It was really cool did some contacts visited more people although we never found any more cool people that day.

The next day however was just as good talked to good people in the same new area that I had decided to go to but this time it was me Elder Eide and Elder Rolim a brasileiro. We found a crazy lady who when we told her we were missionaries and representatives of christ ran away screaming “just go….leave me alone…just go” or that’s kind of how it translates. It was kind of weird and it felt odd cause the house was really nice but she looked like a……well this sounds mean but an oger crazy lady. It just didn´t fit. Then we found our shinning investigator. We found flavia cause I made a joke like “let’s go contact that green house they look loaded” but as I saw her house I thought “we could contact that house her door is open” and felt like I should. Pushed the thought away and as we passed I felt as if something was telling me “go contact that house”. So I turned around companions looking at me like im crazy and contacted her. She let us in and she was really excited to talk to us. She participated and we went back the next saturday she accepted the Book of Mormon and I think she’ll be baptized. Its one of the few things that makes me sad to leave this area. I find one person who is really ready and I have to leave.

Other than that this week was not all that memorable. We dropped so many people in the knowledge that me and elder Hansen will leave this area to two new people who are going to come in. The new LZ was here for a couple transfers and now he’s coming back. Fun for him right? IM really excited i cant even tell you guys. I’m excited for this change and to let you know i think my p-day might change to Saturday now but im not sure.

Hmmm what to say now. Brasil is a really beautiful place. The coastal side where im at is really green. I’m not so sure about chapeco but I think it’s the same way. We don’t have too many fruit trees just hanging all over the place but when its humid you remember that you re in a tropical country. It thunders quite a bit which makes Brasilians happy because I sware they love loud noises. Itll be broad daylight, cloudy, mid day and you’ll hear a fire work go off. Probably because of a soccer game but they don´t even see them. It’s really odd. It’s actually raining way hard today, much to my companions unhappiness. Well got to go email my president. I’ll email again after if I have any more thoughts.

Love,
E. Fullmer
