Elder Austin Fullmer – Third time is a charm

3 October 2011

Family & Friends,

We had transfer calls this week. It was so nerve raking. Everyone calls in and listens to President Pimentel read off the lists of areas and their new Elders or Sisters. The other two Elders that live near us came over for the call and I made a big breakfast for everyone. Mom: get this. I made biscuits and gravy. I was pretty confident that I could make biscuit. How hard could that really be? The scary part was going to make homemade gravy. The big news: my gravy was really good if I do say so my self. The bigger news: I am staying in Bergedorf, Hamburg, Germany for my third transfer. I am pretty excited for this because I wanted to stay in Bergedorf. Elder Lingard, my trainer and who most missionaries would call my mission ”father” is being transfered tomorrow to a city in the Hannover Zone. He will be district leader there as we was here in Bergedorf. My new companion is called Elder Gunthry. I am not sure if that is spelled correctly. I am excited to get to know him and hopefully he is a hard worker. So my addresses are still the same:

Elder Fullmer

Brook Strasse 19

21029 Hamburg

Germany

or

Elder Fullmer

Deutchland Berlin Mission

Zerbster Strasse 42

12209 Berlin

Germany

The first is my physical address, the second is the mission office in Berlin. It is better to write that address since is is permanently there and my address changes. I get that mail about every three weeks.

My friend Zach sent me a picture of the Academy Cross Country team this semester. Crap, I miss you guys a lot. Good luck with the rest of your season.

I absolutely love General Conference. For those of you that don’t know what that is let me explain. It is a biannual event that is broad casted throughout the world. There are five two hour sessions in which the Prophet and President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, members of the 12 Apostles, and others speak to the world. It was awesome and a super refreshing experience to hear the encouraging remarks that were spoken there. I also want to share a pretty funny experience. There is actually a sixth session of this conference that takes place a week before the rest of the conference. It is for the Relief Society. This is the woman’s organization of the church (which on a side note is one of the largest Women’s organizations in the world). Anyways, in Germany they showed this session as a recording on the first day that the rest of the sessions were shown. My companion and I had to set up chairs an hour before this session started. I convinced him to watch it with me since (1) we were already there and (2) my Mom and already seen it in the states and said that the concluding speaker was really really good. This is an excerpt from President Dieter F. Uchtdorf’s talk (who is the second counselor to the Prophet and President of the Church and also a native German) that he gave there:

—”As a child, when I would look at the little forget-me-nots, I sometimes felt a little like that flower—small and insignificant. I wondered if I would be forgotten by my family or by my Heavenly Father. Years later I can look back on that young boy with tenderness and compassion. And I do know now—I was never forgotten. And I know something else: as an Apostle of our Master, Jesus Christ, I proclaim with all the certainty and conviction of my heart—neither are you!

”You are not forgotten.

”Sisters [I would add Brothers], wherever you are, whatever your circumstances may be, you are not forgotten. No matter how dark your days may seem, no matter how insignificant you may feel, no matter how overshadowed you think you may be, your Heavenly Father has not forgotten you. In fact, He loves you with an infinite love. Just think of it: You are known and remembered by the most majestic, powerful, and glorious Being in the universe! You are loved by the King of infinite space and everlasting time! He who created and knows the stars knows you and your name—you are the daughters of His kingdom. The Psalmist wrote:

“ ‘When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

“ ‘What is man, that thou art mindful of him? …

“‘For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.”

”God loves you because you are His child. He loves you even though at times you may feel lonely or make mistakes.”

—(Austin again). Let’s all try not to forget this concept: You are not forgotten. Our Heavenly Father knows you. And even though I am much less significant, I don’t forget about you either and I pray for your success.

Good luck this week with Midterms, races, games, work, school, calling, travels, and what ever other trials that you have to deal with.

Love,

Tschüß,

Peace,

Elder Austin Arthur Fullmer

Elder Tyler Fullmer – It’s really freaking cold here

SO I have 4 points you need to listen to, and need to tell Jonathan and Scotty.
1. Mostly for Scotty… it’s freaking cold here. You don’t have a dryer… bring 2 towels. Most of the time the one is slightly soggy and that’s no fun.

*** I told him to buy a stupid extra towel then…geez***

2. Bring a photo book,  I need one please, just full of random family stuff and the Brazilians love it, and their so sad to know you’ve only got 2 pictures and NONE OF YOUR MOM.

*** Told him waahhhh, I don’t do pics of me, but I’m actually putting together one to send.****

3. Make sure you know how to cut your toe nails. Ingrown toenails are not cool and fun fact I just got over one and it’s not fun. Really hurts and the tithing has to be used so please warn them. Can I just say it hurts a lot and no one wants it to get infected.

***Am I the worst mom ever….thought the toe nail thing was a no brainer  🙂  ***

4. It’s really freaking cold here. 14c and it felt way colder. Plus Sunday naps are something to cut out. Sundays are killing me here. Anyways be prepared for the cold.

What I mean is we get refunded when we have a medical problem and that’s tithing money. I felt dumb asking to go to the doctor for something preventable.

The coat and blanket have come in handy so much I can’t even tell you. Right now because of that I’m doing good.  I don’t need anything else, but thank you for asking. It makes me laugh because people made fun of me for having both of those things.  There’s this one area named chapeco where the mission had to buy a space heater and sometimes their clothes freeze.

*** I made him take his fleece blanket and heavy duty wool coat.  He didn’t want to squeeze them in but I insisted.  Glad he didn’t ditch them in the MTC***

Anyways I was really worried about the fast and testimony meetings, but surprisingly they are so much better here. There are actual testimonies. I gave mine for the first time and everyone is always surprised when I start talking and I tell them I’ve been here for two months. Plus yesterday was my first time giving the spiritual thought at a lunch.

The thought is just like, after we eat we give them a little message you know. The missionaries do it here too. Pretty much it was just asking for help. I used scriptures about missionary work and then one about not being scared because the lord is going to strengthen us.  It went well and I think they understood.

Man,  I eat so much here. I’m going to be fat when I go home. I was up 20 pounds in the MTC. I don’t think I’ve gained more,  and I’ve come to love rice and beans… haha.

Elder Austin Fullmer – Off to the MTC

Dear Friends,
I’m in Las Cruces, NM right now for my sister’s graduation and I am visiting friends from high school. Tonight is my last night before I leave for the Missionary Training Center. My flight leaves from the El Paso Airport at 6:10 tomorrow morning, so the day is going to start pretty early. I report into the MTC at 1:00 PM tomorrow afternoon, and I’m super excited. Honestly, I have to keep reminding myself that this R-day will not be anything like the R-day I experienced two years ago. Hopefully there won’t be twenty-somethings yelling at me tomorrow.

In the future, I’m not exactly sure how communication is going to work. For now I am a 100% sure that I can receive mail by post.

My address is going to be

Elder Austin Arthur Fullmer
MTC Mailbox # 224
GER-BER 0726
2005 N 900 E
Provo, UT 84604-1793

I would love letters! I’m not sure when I will be allowed to use my email or what the rules will be with my email. Obviously you can always email me; I’m just not sure if I will be able to email you back. Regardless, I will be allowed to email my parents once a week and my mom will be forward that email to all of you!
Her email is lenamariefullmer@msn.com.  Also, my cool cousin Clifford has created a site for another cousin of mine who is also on a mission and myself. He will be posting all of my emails on that site. Right now you’ll find great letters from my cousin Tyler Fullmer who is serving in Brazil. The site is http://elderfullmer.wordpress.co. Hopefully my emails will start appearing there. If I get to send home any pictures, they will be at this website.

Well, wish me luck! I’m off to the MTC. Hopefully the German language treats me well.

Love Elder Austin Arthur Fullmer

Ty’s Visa came through!!

Hooray, Ty’s Visa has come through.  He will fly out of Salt Lake City tomorrow at around noon, get into Texas at 4:30pm, and leave from Texas to Brazil at 7:30pm.  We are looking forward to talking to him from the airport.  3 other missionaries will also be flying down with him.  He’s so excited and ready to go. Here is his new address, and of course the email address stays the same.  We won’t know what day his pday is until he gets there.

Ty’s email – 3/19/11

Bom Dia Familia,

OK so first I only have 30 min so if its short I’m sorry.

My address is
Elder Tyler Ross Fullmer
MTC mailbox #97
bra-flo 0516
2005 n. 900. E
Provo, Utah 84604-1793
so you can mail me at that address.

Ok for the real stuff…its going really well here I love it. My teachers are great and we are already praying and baring our testimony, with some notes, In Portuguese. I really can’t believe I’m here and everyone in my district is great, plus half of them are like copies of people i know from home.

You have got to tell Scotty that I met his double, he’s not my comp though and sadly I’m not district leader but I am the senor comp, for the next 2 weeks and then we switch. My comps name is Elder Zachary Torres from grants pass, most of the elders and sisters are either from Oregon or Washington. Anyways he’s pretty cool, gets kind of obnoxious sometimes but other than that we’ve helped each other out quite a bit.

There’s 13 of us, 8 guys and 5 girls. The four of us in my room are all going to Florianopolis the rest are mostly going to Sao Paulo somewhere. One of the Elders just got his visa and he leaves in a few days. Life is pretty crazy busy lunch and dinners are amazing breaks in the schedule. We get put in the same room for hours on end which would seem good for memorization but it’s really not, I go kinda crazy in that room sometimes.

I’m doing laundry right now so we’ll see how well me and my comp did on our first time. Its way odd walking around and seeing everyone in suits and dresses…..and of course those nice name tags.

This sounds way cliché but the sprit is way strong here I can’t even believe it. It’s nice being with people that have your same goal and mind but are still so different that you can still learn a lot from everyone. The girls in our district are kind of showing us up on that language side of things and that might be because half of them are majoring in Spanish, but like I said we are all moving along well.

I miss you guys, that’s funny that Connor has already took over my computer. I can’t wait till I’m able to get out into the field and go to work. SO GET ME THE YELLOW YELLOW FEVER CARD. Just go to DFM and ask for one because I didn’t get one. Well it’s about time to go. My P-days are mostly going to be on Fridays so that’s when you guys should be getting the emails. I’m going to try and write a letter as well. Oh and sorry i wasn’t able to send any pictures we haven’t had time as I said its crazy busy but I will be send them soon.

I love you all and can’t wait to hear from you soon. Get my address to Scotty or anyone else who wants it. Well time to get back to the work.

Love you,

Elder Tyler Fullmer
