Elder Tyler Fullmer – Chicken hearts… it’s what’s for dinner

So we do eat a lot of Brazilian type food here at the CTM and its not very good, says our teachers and I have to agree.  Irmao Bonifacio took us out, well showed us and we payed, to a Brazilian bbq and it was so good. I’m still full from all the food. I ate chicken heart and wild boar today for the first time and Irmao said that there are certain ones down south that sell ostrich and alligator.

Speaking of need,  I want you to send me my Timbers scarf, cause the Brazilians’ here don’t understand what it really is, and then they see a picture and freak out. Haha. So that should come in the next pkg please…. oh and how much is on my card cause yes we shop and send things outside of the CTM on p-days.

I loved my Easter goodies and good to know it takes 3 weeks, but that kinda sucks.

So we went out just right outside the CTM and just talk to people. We had an hour to walk around and just talk to everyone. Either this week or next week we go out to the full on city and do the same thing. We have a good area that we can just walk around and see the people and buy things.

My days are: 6am wake up, 7am study, 8am breakfast, 830am class, 1230 lunch, 1330 study, 1530 gym, 1700 dinner, 1800 class, sleep 2230. And we do that everyday, except Sunday.  Sundays are the same schedule as home, and then we have devotionals domingo and Tuesday.

Yes I am writing a journal,  but nobody is reading them till I’m dead.  I’m pretty sure i reanswer a lot of questions in these emails, but oh well.

My comp doesn’t leave early anymore, but we don’t know if he´ll still be my comp they might switch people around.

So I don’t go though the temple in Portuguese,  I know that’ll disappoint dad.  We do it in English and guess what. I was reading out of genesis and  6 pages fell out of the binding I was so mad.

Your Easter stuff was well appreciated.  That tie was pretty amazing.

Oh, i forgot  to tell you, every house has a fence with spikes and we have like 8 guards here, haha, so I’m safe…. and just a fun fact,  I’ve gained 10 to 15 pounds haha.

You guys need to tell me more about people from home. I miss getting news from you guys.

From Elder Fullmer

**Karli’s note***

He’s killing me…I keep asking  asking if he’s getting our letters, and if so getting them daily or in big lumps. He mentioned at some point that he had gotten some letters, but between the three of us here, we send a letter every single day.  The thought that he’s not getting them is making me crazy….sigh.  Oh and I told him I think it will take 3months to get packages down to him not 3 weeks….we just sent our first package off, I’ll send another next month sometime.  I figure he’ll have to hang on a few months but then he’ll get one once a month or so.  We did finally get the first letter he sent from Brazil with his box # etc…so check back for the updated address….Clifford will be updating it since I can’t seem to figure it out.

Elder Tyler Fullmer and The heart of Sao Paulo

Me and my comp placed 3 Books of Mormon last Friday. That was the greatest experience of all time. I understood the people and they knew what I was saying, wooohooo. They didn’t get what he was saying, but they always looked to me to talk, and the last one I placed by myself. It feels really great. Next time we go out to the “heart” of Sao Paulo, if you can call it that, but that’s what we do.

I got your letters from the 6th and the 11th so it takes awhile. My mailbox is 21 but your letters have been getting to me and by the way I showed part of one of your letters to the sisters of my district and they wanted me to tell you they thought it was great. I really do enjoy hearing about what’s going on at home.

Oh my comps name is Elder Larson and he’s from Washington. We still can´t upload pictures and that sucks. On the other hand however we can’t take our cameras outside of the CTM, so not too many picture taking opportunities here, but it is so amazing to get out of the CTM every Wednesday.

I have a question for dad, are we related to the Benjamin F Johnson in our heritage?  Also who has got visas…anyone from d-town?

I also thanked the Mission pres for the email and told him that you loved it.

Well I got a little dehydrated Saturday and so I got sick, but I’ve been watching the water level’s better, so that’s gotten good. Me and my comp were both sick over the weekend.

So the Sao Paulo temple is way cool and very beautiful. The Second best of course, but it is up there. Well that’s about it for this week.

I love you guys, bye.

Elder Tyler Fullmer – Life in the Sao Paolo CTM

The city is so big I can´t believe it. The biggest city I have ever been in, which is not saying much I know. There are sky scrapers everywhere and you can’t see the end of the city.

On the flight over here I sat next to an LDS convert with an amazing testimony. His wife, son, and daughter all died in a car accident involving a drunk driver and he still has so much faith. I don’t know how he does it.

The way we got processed here was way different, because we went from the MTC with 2000ish missionaries, to the CTM just breaking 300. So we all got to personally meet and talk to the mission president. Hopefully he sent out an email to you with the picture in it.

My room is a little more cramped but everything is nicer. The reason we do not have as much room is because we have 6 people to a room. 4 Americans and 2 Brazilians and I must say they are multilingual. They help us so much with the language and in turn we teach them English.

The main difference is that the CTM on P-day lets us leave and we can go out around a couple blocks and talk to people, and we actually go to the post office.  Here the CTM doesn’t have one.

The thunderstorms are so cool here it is one of the best parts. The wall looks like a water fall because its tile and there is so much rain.

I must admit that the first money exchange we had in the airport was the biggest hit to me that I was not in the US anymore. Holding reai (their money), and yes I got more reai than the amount of dollars I gave, so yes the dollar still is important, and seeing the difference hit me that I was in brazil. Then seeing how much city there was made my mind blown. We just got back from the temple and it is so beautiful. The second best I have been to I would say. It has some of the coolest stain glass ever. There were a lot of us, so the session was in English even if the workers didn’t speak it.

My comp is way cool, our Brazilian roommates address us as “Oi American boy, Cowboy Como voce esta?” HAHA the first day he showed them his pictures of him doing rodeo and he got his nickname. His twin just got here today and it’s so weird everyone kinda freaked when they saw him.

Well it is warm here but it’s not unbearable until you go to gym. Then you wish it was cooler. My district is a little unfocused and they use our air conditioner too much but that’s about it. Our teachers are way laid back and like to joke around but we have learned so much here, me and my comp.

Well time to get out of my long sleeved shirt. Goodbye for now, love you all.

Elder Tyler Fullmer – Letter from the The Brazil MTC President

Dear Parents,

We are happy to send the good news that your missionary has arrived safely at the Brazil MTC.  What a great joy and privilege it is to greet each missionary as they come through the front door of the MTC for the first time. We promise to    take good care of your missionary.

They now have companions and are settled into their rooms.  They are assigned to a district with capable and caring instructors for language and lesson study.  The branch presidents and their wives, will soon give them a second greeting.  These couples are rewarded in their callings through the love they always develop as they embrace and watch over the missionaries.

The MTC has a full time live-in physician to care for their health needs.  He is assisted by his able wife. We are also happy to report that the Cafeteria food is abundant and very good.

Your missionary will be able to e-mail home on Preparation Day after a morning at the Temple.  This will be either Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on individual assignments.

Your very important young person is about to make an eternal difference in the lives of others.  We hope you will be encouraged and comforted by this quote by President Lorenzo Snow: “There is no mortal man that is so much interested in the success of an elder [sister] when he is preaching the gospel as the Lord that sent him to preach to the people who are the Lord’s children.”

Please accept our love,

President Donald L Clark and Sister Zaza Clark

Ty is off and somewhere over Mexico right now

We talked to Ty for about an hour today as he was on a layover in the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport.  He shipped out with 8 other guys, some where heading to madagascar, the others to sao paulo with Ty.  He’s pumped!!!!   They were flying out of Dallas at 7:30pm and scheduled to arrive in Brazil sometime around 7am.  Long flight but so exciting.

As he and another missionary were standing in line for lunch at the Salt Lake Airport, he motioned for the man behind them to go ahead because they hadn’t decided what to order.  The man responded that they better hurry up and choose because he was buying them lunch.  Awwwww…..if only he knew how much a mother appreciates someone looking after her son when she can’t.

I know he’s going to do a great job, and it was great to hear how excited and ready to go he was.  Well, when he gets to the Brazil MTC he will find out when Pday is and send out an email hopefully.
